Karthik & Happy Cows

10/30/2018

Now is the month of Kartik, also known as the month of Damodara.  It is considered by devotees of Krishna to be the holiest month of the year. During this month, devotees worship Krishna in His form as a young boy, Damodara, who was a cowherd.  It is the month which is most dear to Lord Sri Krishna, and Krishna is very easily pleased by someone who renders even a little devotional service to him during this month. Since cows are very dear to Krishna, giving in charity to the cows is pleasing to him.

The good news is that we have only $3000 left to collect to meet the $25,000 Matching Gift Campaign! If we can meet this amount soon, our anonymous donor will consider increasing the amount to match. Any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated, and we offer gift options for your donation. However, if you would like to receive a special gift from us in the form of an Arati and treats offered to Giriraja and the ISCOWP herd to invoke blessings for you, you can give a $1000 donation to ISCOWP.

Here is one Arati ceremony we offered recently. During the Arati ceremony, all the cows were resting under a group of Live Oak trees which gave them a lot of shade on the hot Fall day. Almost all of these cows in the ISCOWP herd were about to be slaughtered when saved. In celebration, the cows were fed alfalfa cubes as treats and the younger cows were given access to a pasture they never roamed before. All herd members were joyful either eating alfalfa cubes or running and kicking their heels exploring the new pasture.

ISCOWP’s most immediate projects you can donate to:

  1.  Nutritional buckets have been helping to keep the cows healthy. The cows love licking the mix in the 225-pound bucket and eagerly gather when we bring a new bucket into the field.  The cost is $3,250.00 for one year. One bucket cost $180.   Donate now for nutritional buckets.
  2. Flies can be a real problematic nuisance for cows, and we have found a solution in the past two years that keeps the cows relatively free of flies 95 percent of the time. Fly predators by Spalding Labs are the natural enemy of flies, but never bother people or animals. This costs us $1,415.68 for one year.  One month supply of fly predators is $101.12.  Donate now for Fly Predators.
  3. Adopt one of the cows from the ISCOWP herd. An adoption helps to cover each cow’s needs. Develop a personal relationship with a cow by receiving an 8″ by 11″ photo of your cow, an adoption certificate and four seasonal cow video/pictorial updates a year. Adopt A Cow here.
  4. Ox training programs. In the dairy industry, the males are considered useless except for the price of their meat because they do not produce milk. Their lives are often more horrific than those of the cows. In cow protection programs the ox is often in the background for the same reason. However,  the ox is intelligent and has abilities which become apparent when he is trained. Your donation can further the spreading of how to train oxen and the spiritual reasons why. Donate to ISCOWP ox training programs.

One gift from us to you for your gift of $108 or more is a Friends for Life t-shirt in adult and youth sizes (no toddler sizes). Also available in our store
